We are delighted to introduce Catherine Bodnar, Investment Analyst at Trust Management

We are delighted to introduce Catherine Bodnar, an Investment Analyst at Trust Management, who joined the organisation in November 2023 through a secondment from Foundation North. Catherine shares her journey into the investment sector, her passion for climate impact measurement, and her commitment to supporting Te Ao Māori. She discusses the unique challenges faced by non-profit clients in achieving stable returns and her passion for supporting the rainbow community through her work with the Rule Foundation.

How long have you been at Trust Management, and why did you join?

I have worked at TIML since November 2023, joining as a secondment opportunity from Foundation North to understand climate impact measurement at an investment portfolio level.

How did you end up working in investment, and what do you like most about your role?

I had an advocate in Peter Tynan, the CEO of Foundation North. Peter suggested the secondment and put my name forward. I was studying Actuarial Sciences in my free time, so the opportunity made sense. Trust Management also wanted to expand their understanding of Te Ao Māori. Having worked closely with Foundation North's cultural advisors and witnessing some of the organisation’s journey firsthand, we thought this was an area where I could provide support. My favourite part of my role here is the team I work with: Matt, Halie, Cindy, and Mark. Everyone is friendly, committed, compassionate, works hard, and supports each other.

What unique challenges do our non-profit clients face?

Good returns, while “nice to have” for most people, are essential for non-profits. If your KiwiSaver is experiencing volatility, you are probably moderately concerned. However, if a non-profit doesn’t make its targeted returns, it faces difficult decisions about the essential services it provides to our communities. Trust Management’s strategic asset allocation and balanced approach to risk help to provide stable distribution payments and support boards in planning for the future.

Outside of work, what are you most passionate about?

Passing my university studies (long-suffering sigh) and supporting the rainbow community through my work as board secretariat to the Rule Foundation.

The Rule Foundation is dedicated to empowering rainbow communities and takatāpui, fostering their growth and advocating for systemic change to benefit future generations. We offer grants to support initiatives aimed at enhancing the health, wellbeing, and visibility of rainbow, takatāpui, and MVPFAFF+ communities.
